YOU GOTTA STAY COOL, MAN SHIRT

Nineteen seconds left. Down three points. A 60-yard field goal to force overtime. A touchdown to finish the comeback. And somehow, Curt Cignetti was still keeping his cool.

“You gotta stay cool, man.”

The YOU GOTTA STAY COOL, MAN SHIRT – Curt Cignetti Indiana OT Win captures the Indiana Hoosiers head coach’s instantly memorable response after a wild 23-16 overtime victory against Minnesota on October 31, 2026.

Instead of an emotional victory speech, Cignetti delivered the line with his trademark composure during his postgame CBS interview. It was an unexpectedly funny ending to one of Indiana’s most dramatic wins of the season—and a phrase that perfectly summarizes the mindset of a defending national champion trying to do it all again.

Storytelling

Nineteen Seconds From Disaster to Another Indiana Miracle

Halloween 2026 nearly became a nightmare for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Playing Minnesota at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, No. 4 Indiana struggled to establish offensive consistency. Special teams mistakes compounded the problems, and starting quarterback Josh Hoover was replaced by Grant Wilson for the second half.

Then came an extraordinary finish.

Minnesota kicker Luke Drzewiecki drilled a 60-yard field goal to put the Golden Gophers ahead 16-13 with just 19 seconds remaining.

For Indiana, another loss appeared almost unavoidable.

Wilson connected with Charlie Becker for 33 yards, giving Paddy McAteer an opportunity to attempt a 60-yard field goal. McAteer converted as regulation expired.

In overtime, Wilson immediately found Becker for a 25-yard touchdown. Indiana’s defense followed with the decisive stop, including Tobi Osunsanmi’s game-ending sack.

Final score: Indiana 23, Minnesota 16.

The Hoosiers improved to 8-1, keeping their hopes of defending the national championship alive.

The Postgame Interview That Created “Stay Cool, Man”

With the comeback complete, CBS sideline reporter Jenny Dell interviewed Curt Cignetti on the field.

Cignetti joked about providing entertainment after another nerve-racking afternoon. He acknowledged the team’s struggles but emphasized its ability to find a way through difficult situations.

Then came the perfect closing moment.

After receiving a Baby Ruth candy bar, a favorite treat of his, Cignetti smiled and explained his famously restrained sideline demeanor:

“You gotta stay cool, man. Can’t get too emotional.”

The remark was delivered with the calm confidence fans associate with Coach Cig.

It wasn’t an elaborate motivational speech or a carefully prepared slogan. It was a spontaneous postgame comment, made funnier by the contrast between Indiana’s chaotic victory and its head coach’s composure.

That contrast is what gives the shirt its personality.

From 2025 National Champions to the 2026 Title Defense

Cignetti had already transformed Indiana football into one of the sport’s remarkable championship stories.

On January 19, 2026, Indiana defeated Miami 27-21 in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, completing a perfect 16-0 season and claiming the program’s first national football title.

The 2026 season brought a different challenge.

Indiana was no longer the unexpected contender. It was the defending champion, facing opponents determined to beat the team that had reached the top of college football.

A close loss to Ohio State and consecutive overtime wins against Michigan and Minnesota showed how difficult the title defense had become.

Cignetti’s Halloween-night line captured a mentality that mattered throughout that journey: stay composed when the game becomes chaotic, trust the team, and keep competing.

The shirt turns that fleeting interview moment into a piece of Hoosiers football culture.
