RICO’S ROUGHNECKS SHIRT

The only good mouse is a dead mouse. Service guarantees catnip.

Somewhere on a war-torn alien battlefield, a tiny gray kitten has taken command of an entire military operation. He’s wearing combat armor, standing triumphantly above an army of mice, and apparently taking his mission very seriously.

The RICO’S ROUGHNECKS SHIRT – Starship Troopers Cat vs Mouse Parody transforms the militaristic science-fiction world of Starship Troopers into a ridiculous feline battlefield.

Inspired by Johnny Rico’s Mobile Infantry unit and the film’s unmistakable recruitment propaganda, this design replaces the war against alien bugs with the eternal rivalry between cats and mice.

It’s the kind of crossover that works on two levels: an adorable military-cat illustration at first glance, and a carefully constructed Starship Troopers joke for anyone who recognizes the references.

Storytelling

Rico’s Roughnecks, Reimagined as a Feline Army

In Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 science-fiction film Starship Troopers, humanity fights a brutal interplanetary war against giant alien insects known as Arachnids.

Johnny Rico, played by Casper Van Dien, rises through the Mobile Infantry and becomes associated with the elite fighting unit known as Rico’s Roughnecks.

But the movie’s most recognizable legacy isn’t simply its action. It’s the exaggerated military propaganda, recruitment slogans, and dark humor surrounding the fictional Federation.

The Rico’s Roughnecks Cat Shirt takes those elements and imagines what would happen if the Mobile Infantry consisted of cats instead of humans.

The terrifying alien enemy? Mice.

The fearless commander? A wide-eyed gray tabby kitten wearing oversized green combat armor.

The reward for serving? Catnip.

The Only Good Mouse Is a Dead Mouse

One of the film’s most recognizable propaganda lines declares:

The only good bug is a dead bug.

This design delivers its feline reinterpretation through “THE ONLY GOOD MOUSE IS A DEAD MOUSE.”

The joke works because it preserves the original slogan’s aggressive military certainty while replacing an interplanetary enemy with a cat’s traditional prey.

Even the famous recruitment promise, Service guarantees citizenship, becomes the wonderfully absurd “SERVICE GUARANTEES CATNIP.”

The result is more than an ordinary funny cat illustration. It’s a miniature science-fiction propaganda poster, built around recognizable movie references and exaggerated cartoon warfare.

Product Description

The Rico’s Roughnecks Cat Starship Troopers Shirt combines military science-fiction satire with a surprisingly adorable feline protagonist.

At the center, a heavily armored gray kitten commands a battlefield filled with tiny mice, distant fortifications, and a dramatic orange sky.

The humorous contrast between the kitten’s innocent expression and its intimidating military equipment creates the design’s distinctive personality.

Fans familiar with Starship Troopers will recognize the references to Johnny Rico’s unit, the Mobile Infantry, and the movie’s propagandistic slogans.

Cat enthusiasts can appreciate the artwork independently as a ridiculous fantasy about their pets secretly running military operations.

It brings together sci-fi nostalgia, dark comedy, and cute animal illustration without losing the original film reference.

Visual Interpretation

The artwork appears on a solid black shirt, using an orange-and-yellow battlefield illustration framed beneath distressed cream military lettering.

Across the top, RICO’S ROUGHNECKS establishes the fictional combat-unit identity.

A gray tabby kitten with enormous green eyes dominates the central scene. Its olive-green tactical armor features protective plating, utility pouches, and a small orange cat emblem.

The kitten stands on elevated terrain, extending one paw toward the battlefield.

Below, rows of gray mice gather across the foreground, while ruined structures, distant figures, and flying silhouettes fill the orange sunset background.

The lower text reads:

THE ONLY GOOD MOUSE IS A DEAD MOUSE

Beneath it, the smaller slogan states:

SERVICE GUARANTEES CATNIP

A small military-style skull insignia completes the composition.

The combination of cute cartoon proportions, distressed typography, and dramatic battlefield imagery creates the appearance of a satirical recruitment poster.
