Arch Manning Has Reached the Point Where “Hook ’Em” Says Enough

Texas enters 2026 with another sold-out home schedule, a nationally ranked roster and a quarterback who no longer needs recruiting hype to justify the attention. Arch Manning now has a full season of evidence behind him — and one of college football’s oldest rally cries in front of him.

For most of Arch Manning’s college career, every discussion seemed to require a family tree. Archie. Peyton. Eli. Expectations. Recruiting rankings. The surname itself was treated like part of the scouting report.

That framing became much less useful in 2025.

Manning started all 13 games for Texas, threw for 3,163 yards and 26 touchdowns, added 399 rushing yards and ten more scores, and helped the Longhorns finish 10-3. By the end of the year, Texas had won seven of its final eight games and Manning was producing some of his best football against ranked opponents.

So as September 2026 arrives, the most interesting part of his story is not that another Manning is playing quarterback. It is that Texas has a proven starter wearing No. 16 and another season of national expectations waiting for him.

The Citrus Bowl Changed the Tone of the 2026 Conversation

Texas missed the College Football Playoff after the 2025 regular season, but Manning used the Citrus Bowl against Michigan to create a much stronger springboard than an ordinary consolation-game finish.

He threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns, rushed for a career-high 155 yards and two more scores, and broke open the fourth quarter with a 60-yard touchdown run. Texas won 41-27, and Manning was named Citrus Bowl MVP.

He also became the first player in the bowl’s long history to reach at least 150 passing yards and 150 rushing yards in the same game.

Texas Has Moved From Potential to Expectation

That timing matters. A year ago, the central question was how Manning would handle his first full season as starter. Now Texas knows much more about him.

The Longhorns went 5-2 against Top-20 opponents in 2025 and won three games against Top-10 teams. Manning finished especially strongly, producing 1,714 passing yards over his final six games while Texas closed the season with momentum.

The university enters 2026 ranked No. 5 in one major preseason poll and No. 4 in another. Manning appears on the Manning Award, Davey O’Brien, Maxwell and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm watch lists. He was also selected preseason All-SEC.

The Running Pose Matters More Than It First Appears

The artwork does not show Manning standing in the pocket. He is moving forward with the ball secured against his body.

That visual choice fits the real player much better.

Manning’s 2025 production was never purely passing-based. He scored ten rushing touchdowns during the regular season and then added 155 rushing yards against Michigan. His mobility forces defenses to account for something the famous Manning quarterback stereotype does not always suggest.
